My First Job!
Tuesday 2:57 PM
The first thing I am going to do is apologize for my grammar. I like to re-read my previous blog post before writing a new one to ensure I begin where I left off. I had a lot of mistakes in "A Summer Catch-Up," which was terrible. It's like I didn't even take AP English. I will try my best to make fewer mistakes in this post but no promises. Now to the music. Ne-Yo's song "Closer" is today's musical ambiance because it played on the Raising Cane's radio and I like this song. When this song played I sprung up a conversation between me and one of my co-workers and it was the first time I felt like I was getting to know my fellow colleagues. Alright, let us dive in!
JULY 17th
At this point, 7 days have passed since I filled out the background check paperwork and I was starting to get worried because I wasn't hearing back from Cane's. I decided to text them to get an update and they responded to tell me that they will schedule my orientation soon.
JULY 18th
Cane's texted me again saying I passed my background check and that I needed to download some apps and complete a couple of tasks before my orientation. They also asked if I could come tomorrow at 10am for my orientation and I said yes. I was very busy this day because I got my food handler's certificate, and non-slip shoes (which are ugly and bulky but they get the job done). Oh and not to mention all the technical trouble I was having with the "emails" I was supposed to get but didn't. It was fine though because I was just being stupid and eventually I figured it out.
JULY 19th
Orientation day! I arrived at 9:48am and waited at a booth until they were ready for me. I think some guy named Tony gave me a crew shirt and hat and he double-checked my non-slip shoes. After that, a girl gave me a tour of the back and sat me back down while I waited again. A manager named Sam then came up to me and gave me my orientation which took almost 3 hours. It was boring. I didn't actually finish all the videos I had to watch because I needed to leave early for my ASU Zoom about student life, which started at 1pm and it was 12:30ish when I left. I did my Zoom and that was pretty much this Wednesday. Oh, wait! I almost forgot to mention that they texted me at night time asking if I can start the next day. I said yes.
JULY 20th - 22nd
Thursday, Friday, and Saturday were my first training days. On Thursday my trainer was Bella. She was really nice. She taught me how to clean up and stock the dining room area as well as a little bit of expo which is just checking the food to make sure it matches the customer's order. On Friday my trainer was Ruby. She was also nice. She taught me how to use the cashier. On Saturday my trainer was Elyana and we continued on cashier. Oh, and she was nice too, everybody is really nice.
JULY 23rd
I had Sunday off so Mom, Denise, Yesenia, and I went to the mall to get me some work pants. After that, we got some snacks from the michocana cart in the mall. We then went to the Hero's Regional Library to get our summer reading prizes. Senia dropped us off at home and she left. Two hours later Mom, Denise, and I went to go watch the Barbie movie. I liked it a lot!
JULY 24th - 25th
Monday and Tuesday were my last training days. On Monday my trainer was Giselle. She taught me how to take orders at the drive-thru and how to make their drinks at the same time. On Tuesday my trainer was Sal. This was my second day in the drive-thru and he taught me how to do expo and take orders at the same time. This was really hard and I didn't do so great but practice makes perfect. After that, they moved me to the window and that was a lot easier.
JULY 28th, 29th, and 30th
Friday, Saturday, and Sunday were my first days on my own and also my first 8-hour shifts from 4pm-12am. I did cashier on Friday and Sunday. On Saturday I learned how to make coleslaw and how to pump Cane's sauce.
JULY 31st
I am off for the rest of the work week, but this day was my first payday! I already bought new non-slip shoes from Amazon because the ones I have look ugly.
AUGUST 1st
This is today and Denise and I have to sweep and mop the house, but I wanted to write this blog post first. Oh, this month is also Senia's and mine's birthday month!
Okay, I'm done now, BYEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!
4:00 PM
Hey, beach! I love when Ale updates her blog! Her online memory box! I have some questions as I read this post:
ReplyDelete1. Why is working at the window easier than the other things you do?
2. What are you going to do with your Walmart work shoes when you get your new Amazon work shoes?
- Denise 🤎
Hey beach it’s me, Ale! I will now answer your questions:
Delete1.) The window is easier because you are just reading back the customers order, taking payment, and giving them their drinks and order. The taking orders and expoing is harder because I have to put down everything the customer is saying while also checking other peoples order and it can be very easy to get distracted and mess up.
2.) I’m still going to keep my Walmart shoes. They’ll just be my backups now.
Thanks for reading and helping me with the audio stuff 😊 bye!!!!!
